Kogi state Government partners Lower Niger river basin development authority to boost agricultural productivity, food security.
In the quest to meticulously implement the state 5-year agriculture development plan document as developed to engender agricultural renaissance, a visit to the lower Niger river basin development authority(LNRBDA) by the state officials remain one of the many strategic steps to achieve the sector objectives.
Lower Niger river basin development authority headed by a kogite, Engr. George Olumoroti is bestowed with the responsibility of developing and managing water resources in the lower Niger river basin to improve the lives of the people in the area. These include water resources development, irrigation infrastructure, agricultural development, watershed management, water supply ,data collection, and overall economic development of the states under the basin.
The kogi State team is led by the Honourable Commissioner of Finance, Budget and Economic Planning, Mukadam Asiwaju Asiru Idris,FCA, accompanied by the head of Governance delivery unit, Ambassador Olusiji Aina.
Their discussion with the LNRBDA team was centred on ways to foster a viable partnership that would enhance agricultural production capacity and improved food security in the state as enshrined in the 5-year agriculture development plan developed under able leadership of His Excellency, Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, FCA.
The Honourable Commissioner informed the LNRBDA team of an already developed strategic 5-year agriculture development plan that's aimed towards leveraging on the states' agricultural potentials and natural advantages in terms of land fertility, land mass and vantage economic position being an adjoining state to about nine(9) states and the FCT.
In his words, " We have come as a state poised for agricultural revolution under the forward looking leadership of His Excellency, Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo to seek partnership with the river basin authority in the implementation of our agriculture development plan to foster economic growth via improved agriculture production and food security. The wellbeing and welfare of kogites are solidly at the centre of Governor Ododo administration, which underscores our readiness to partner with your agency for productivity. "
The Managing Director, Engr. George Olumoroti, in his response, said the authority is committed to the development of irrigation infrastructure, improvement of agricultural productivity, and other responsibilities of the agency in the states under the river basin. I can assure you, kogi State will witness an unprecedented revolution in the agriculture sector with this partnership, the MD asserted.
Both teams agreed to a partnership that will birth a revolution in terms of improving agriculture productivity and food security for the purpose of advancing the wellbeing and livelihood of the kogites.
